Long Island business leaders met with New York State Commissioner and CEO of Homes and Community Renewal RuthAnne Visnauskas on Wednesday to address Gov. Kathy Hochul’s executive actions on housing.
Association for a Better Long Island Executive Director Kyle Strober said in a written statement that the meeting gave the three organizations “a comprehensive briefing on the state’s executive actions to address housing.” Strober pointed out that affordability “continues to be a systemic problem on Long Island and most prevalent in our housing markets. To address this problem, our region needs diverse housing options, especially affordable and transit oriented multifamily options. We are hopeful that this initiative will spur more multifamily housing developments to be built on Long Island.”
Long Island Builders Institute CEO Mike Florio shared that sentiment. “Gov. Hochul’s incentive based executive actions are rightly focused on addressing the housing crisis we all know exists and which will impede the future economic success of Long Island if not addressed,” Florio said in a written statement.
